LEM = Languages, Species and Metaphores

Here we are once again. This time on the first autumn of the 21st century. The fifth edition of the LEM Festival will display a more intense and varied program than ever before: opening out like a fan, the 49 concerts featured will spread over the whole of contemporary musical creation during two months. A festival gathering all of today's music styles, many of tomorrow's as well as some timeless ones.
Due to the usefulness of thematic sections used in the previous edition, this year's programme will also feature them -as some sort of menus and submenus of a gastronomic kind (rather than computer related)- by way of shortcuts for orientation through the network of styles and themes featured in the festival, its multiple intersections and what the actual interventions by the artists consist in: 183 artists from 11 countries, whose experimental practices have taken them to innovative territories and unheard of proposals, some of which are essential to understand the music of our day and age and other ones so recent that are displayed at the festival for the first time. Bear in mind that LEM tries to be an antidote against boredom as well as an opportunity to be get touch with types of music that do not consent to be carried away by the stream they often generate. Welcome to the birth of the music that is yet to come.
There are three basic new features in this year's edition: First, the festival will have a central space in which a third of the concerts will take place: Gracia District's renewed headquarters has been transformed into an promising multi-purpose venue. All the changes introduced in the selection of venues were carried out in order to improve the audience's and performer's commodity as well as achieving better technical conditions, as you will be able to check throughout the Festival.
The Second feature is that some of the program's selection has been carried out by means of an open internet project aimed towards gathering new proposals, most of which proved to have a great quality.
The third is that -from this year onwards- LEM will work in collaboration with other Barcelonian Autumn new music festivals: Barcelona's Festival de Musiques Contemporanies, with whom a concert is co-produced, the Improvisa Festival, which programme is wholly included, the Avuimusica season and Proposta -festival of poetry and polypoetries. This will enable to enrich the gastronomic -sorry- musical proposal along a thoroughly sonic Barcelonian Autumn. Out of the same desire, LEM will be networked with other Spanish festivals taking place around the same dates and sharing a similar outlook: Periferias (Huesca), Observatori (Valencia) and Freestyle (Terrassa).

Manuel Vicent says that "to spiritually contemplate the food on a dish as matter which will soon be part of your spirit is the essence of Mediterranean diet". The Festival's organization proposes you to do exactly the same with the music of the menu that you are offered. Bon Appetite!
